Recycle Halloween Costumes at a National Costume Swap Day™ event near you

Picture
National Costume Swap Day was started by Green Halloween's® Corey Colwell-Lipson as a way to advance the movement in healthier and more Earth-friendly Halloween celebrating.

Halloween costumes are expensive; why spend $60 for a costume that will only be worn once or twice?

If you are not in the Los Angeles area you can go to www.CostumeSwapDay.com and locate a Costume Swap near you.

October 9, 2011 at Mar Vista Farmer Market -  SEE ALL THE PICTURES AT FLICKR

Traditional Halloween colors may be orange and black, but it's okay to add a bit of GREEN. Halloween costumes are big business for both for kids and adults. Rather than buy a one-time Halloween costume and then place it in storage until it's thrown away, try swapping it!

Swap, Not Shop!

Kids and adults will get the chance to swap new-to-them costumes --
saving money and the environment -- instead of buying new ones
that often contain unsafe materials and end up in landfills.

Bring a costume, swap a costume.
Bring 3, swap 2 and donate 1 to a local homeless child or teenager.

The nationwide Costume Swaps will help reduce landfills by 6200 tons. . .and that's only if half the kids in America swapped costumes!

We advocate crafting, books, safe toys and healthy or sugar-free trick-or-treat items in place of candy. There will be activities for the entire family to enjoy throughout the day.
Bring an extra bag for your free Trick-or-Treat goodies!

Los Angeles Costume Swap is a non-profit group whose goal is to help children learn to embrace their imagination and celebrate what is healthy for both themselves and the planet.

We have two goals

1. To join the fight and help prevent childhood obesity

According to "F as in Fat: How Obesity Threatens America's Future, 2011,” childhood obesity rates have tripled since 1980.
Obese children are at a higher risk of Type 2 diabetes, developing liver diseases, asthma and heart disease

2. To show that celebrating Halloween in Green ways is not only just as much fun but more fun.

Swapping half the costumes kids wear at Halloween would reduce annual landfill waste by 6,250 tons, equal to the weight of 2,500 mid-size cars!

Los Angeles Costume swap saw that a different way to reach kids, youths and adults was needed. Los Angeles Costume Swap’s goal is to help children learn to embrace their imagination with celebrating that is healthy for both themselves and the planet.

Halloween has become a junk-infested holiday plagued with throwaway costumes clogging our landfills, and a source of unhealthy snacks that threaten our children’s long-term well-being.

** All Raffle Contestants will be entered to win the gift certificate and will will receive Robinson Beautilities & Los Angeles Costume Swap eNewsletter.
